Benni McCarthy

Benedict Saul " Benni " McCarthy ( born November 12, 1977 in Cape Town ) is a former football player from South Africa and scorer of the national team of his country.

Career

Benedict McCarthy began his career in 1996 at the Cape Town Spurs. Here he played a year and went in 1997 to the Netherlands to Ajax Amsterdam where he stood in a total of 13 game on the court, where he met two times. According to the 2000 /01 season, he spent 6 million euros to Celta Vigo in the Spanish Primera División.

In Celta Vigo he played until 2002, then was loaned to FC Porto for a year and came back to Celta Vigo. From the season 2003/ 04 he played at FC Porto firmly in the Portuguese Super Liga. With Porto he won the 2004 Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, he was also with 20 goals scorer in the Super League. For the 2006/2007 season, he moved for a transfer fee of 3.7 million euros to the English first division club Blackburn Rovers, where he made his debut on 19 August 2006, under manager Mark Hughes in the game against Portsmouth. Overall, he stood for the Rovers 139 times on the course and shot 51 goals.

In February 2010, McCarthy moved from the Rovers to West Ham United, where he received a contract until 30 June 2011 and where he completed 14 games for the first team, where he remained but without a goal, which is why his contract after this season not been extended.

That's why he signed up to June 30, 2013 at the Orlando Pirates in the first South African League, where he made his debut on August 12, 2011, game against Black Leopards FC when he came on in the 62nd minute and 8 minutes later, even scored the 2-0 Final for the Pirates. At the end of his contract he ended his active career.

McCarthy is one of the best players in the history of South African football.

On National Team McCarthy has been active since 1998. For the World Championships at home, he was suddenly canceled by coach Carlos Alberto Parreira from the squad.
