Bennie Swain

Bennie S. Swain (* December 16, 1933, † 19 June 2008 in Houston ) was an American professional basketball player.

Bennie Swain played in the 1950s for the crew of the Texas Southern University on the position of the forward and center. In 1957/58 he was the most successful points scorer of the season. This year he was also appointed to the selection of the United States. When he left the university after graduation, he held the record scorer of the team until 1981. After his college career, he joined the NBA. He was brought in as seventh in the Entry Draft by the Boston Celtics. He stayed only one season with the club, scoring an average of 4.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In the end he was with the Celtics champions and played 58 games.

After his playing career Swain became a coach. 1970 to 1976 he coached the team in the Lincoln High School, 1980 to 1989, the Jones High School. In 1999 he returned once out of retirement to coach the Ryan Middle School 's boys team. After a long illness he died in 2008 at the age of 77 years. He was married and had four children and eight grandchildren.
