Benyamin Yosef Bria

Benyamin Yosef Bria ( born August 7, 1956 in Decabiti, Regierungsbezirk Belu, West Timor, Indonesia, † 18 September 2007, Singapore) was a Roman Catholic Bishop of Denpasar on Bali in Indonesia.

Life

Benyamin Bria studied from 1976 to 1984 Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary in Lalian and Ledalero and Ritapiret in the Indonesian Flores. On June 29, 1985 he was ordained priest. Bria was first active in pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Atambua. After a degree in canon law at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC he received his doctorate at the University of Ottawa in Canada. Bria since 1993 has been professor of canon law at St. Michael Major Seminary in Kupang.

On 14 April 2000 he was appointed by John Paul II as Bishop of the Diocese of Denpasar. He received his episcopal consecration on August 6, 2000 Bishop Anton Pain Ratu.

He died of renal failure at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
