Beornred of Mercia

Beornrad (Old English Beornrǣd ) was 757 after the murder of Aethelbald for a short time King of Mercia.

The Descent Beornrads is nowhere mentioned. As its name alliterates with the letter B, but it is possible that he was descended of a rival for the throne sidelines of the royal house of Mercia. A sign of this is the fact that the first letter is the name of several kings of the 9th century B. The fact that a rival sidelines with relatives within the body guard of the reigning monarch laying claim to the throne, has parallels with simultaneous events in Northumbria.

In the same year he was defeated and driven out of Offa. About his fate is unknown.
