Béquignol

Béquignol is a red grape variety. She is an autochthonous variety of the wine growing region Sud-Ouest and the Bordeaux in France. In the past, the species was relatively often confused with the grape variety Fer Servadou.

During the bestockte hand fell in the 1990s to less than 100 acres, it is quite successful offered in Argentina. Small stocks are also known in the countries of Brazil, Australia, Spain and Italy.

The strong growth but little yielding variety produces a deep red but something thin, light red wine, by the low acidity values ​​(→ acid (wine) ) the structure is missing. The Béquignol is quite susceptible to powdery mildew. But he is quite hardy and resistant to downy mildew.

This variety tends to be faster mutation. There are, therefore, the varieties Béquignol Blanc ( white berries ), Béquignol Gris and Rose Béquignol known. However, these varieties do not play a role in commercial viticulture.

Due to the frequent confusion with the Fer Servadou the list of synonyms of both species overlap to some extent.
