Berg en Dal

Berg en Dal is a village in the Dutch municipalities Groesbeek and Ubbergen. It is close to Nijmegen in the province of Gelderland, directly on the border with Germany at Wyler. In Berg en Dal and its outer area lived with the level of December 31, 2012 2016 people. Berg en Dal has two zip codes that are assigned depending on the location in Groesbeek or Ubbergen.

History

In Roman times, the springs in the area of Berg en Dal were used in the construction of the Roman aqueduct, which should ensure the supply of Legion location on the Hunerberg with water.

From the second half of the 19th century, the city began to attract tourists themselves. 1869, the well-known hotel Groot Berg en Dal was built to a design by architect Cornelis Outshoorn. This was demolished in 1971; in its place is an eponymous apartment complex today. The connection to the Nijmegen steam tram network was in 1891. In Berg en Dal and its surroundings was started at this time also intensively with the villa construction, examples of this are the Huis Stollenberg, the te Huys Schengen and the Villa de Wychert (1907). Some of the villas are decorated in the Swiss style, in some monastic communities were settled, for example, a Montfortanerorden in Huyse de Uleput, a group of the Brothers of Mercy of St. John of God in Huis Herwarden, or a part of the Daughters of Wisdom at De Kitselenberg.

1927 an auxiliary church was built, which was converted in 1947 to the parish church. In 1966 the construction of the church was designed by the architect J. Strik.
