The Bergamo railway station (Italian: Stazione di Bergamo) is the station of the northern Italian city of Bergamo. It is operated by the Company CentoStazioni SpA, a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato SpA, .

The station is located south of the city center and is the starting point of the railway lines Lecco -Bergamo, Seregno - Bergamo, Bergamo and Bergamo Treviglio -Brescia. He has seven platform tracks, five of which are equipped with a platform roof. The station is furthermore equipped with extensive track systems for the freight that are separated from the passenger.

History

After 1840 started the construction of the railway line from Milan to Venice ( Ferdinand train), the desire for a connection to this line was loud in Bergamo, which should lead past in about 25 km distance to the city, about Treviglio, Chiari and Coccaglio.

After much discussion it was decided that the route part Treviglio Coccaglio should not be diverted via Chiari, but via Bergamo, with a prolonged course of about 20 km.

On October 12, 1857 the station was built by the Austrian Southern Railway Company was opened together with the line Treviglio -Bergamo - Coccaglio. 1863 came the line to Lecco to do so.

The direct course over Chiari, however, was later built and opened in 1878. Since then, the routes Treviglio -Bergamo -Brescia and Bergamo were downgraded to branch lines, and the Bergamo railway station separated from the main railway network.

Until the 60 years next two reversed local railways, the ferrovia Brembana and ferrovia Seriana; to this second light rail Bergamo albino was built in 2009.
