Berlin is a town in Hartford County in the U.S. state of Connecticut.

Berlin was founded in 1785. Due to its name, one can surmise that the city founders were former German emigrants. However, a proof of this can not be found.

The economy is determined by fruit and vegetables as well as from smaller farms. The majority of the population works in Hartford.

Data obtained from the census in 2000 18.215 inhabitants of Berlin were living in 6,792 households; among them were 5,155 families. The population density was 266 per km ². In place 6,955 residential units were recorded, of which 6,792 are inhabited. Among the population was 97.0 % White, 0.4% African American, 0.1% American Indian, 1.7 % Asian and 0.2 % of other ethnic groups; 0.7 % reported belonging to several ethnic groups.

Among the 4,319 households 34.3% had children under the age of 18; 20.8% were single-person households. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size 3.11.

The population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 5.3 % from 18 to 24, 27.8 % 25-44 years, 25.6% from 45 to 64 years and 16.6 % of 65 years or older. The median age was 41 years.

The median household income was 68 068 U.S. dollar (which was significantly above the U.S. average of $ 41,994 ), the median family income $ 76,756. The per capita income was $ 27,744 in Berlin. Under the poverty line lived 1.4 % of families and 2.5 % of the population.
