The Dresden train station was the original terminus of the Berlin- Dresden railway in Berlin.

Location

The Dresden station was south of the Landwehr canal between the freight yards of the Berlin- Potsdam Railway and the Anhalt line with access from the Luckenwalder road. Today there are in this place of Metro Station reversing triangle and the building of the former Berlin Postbahnhof. The investments of the goods station of the Berlin- Dresden railway joined south of the passenger station. The station was in the Tempelhof suburb, the site is now part of the Berlin district of Kreuzberg.

History

The station was inaugurated on 17 June 1875, and served the traffic to and from Dresden. His counterpart thereat was the Berlin station in Dresden- Friedrichstadt district. Prague and Vienna could be reached by coaches. Initially, only a temporary station building was built in timber frame construction on the west side of the platform facilities. The construction of a representative station building was planned at the head of the railway facilities at the Luckenwalder street, but was not realized.

Only a few years after the opening, it was decided to carry persons of the Berlin- Dresden railway for 1880 opened to direct construction of the pickup station. Thus, the Dresden train station was shut down as a passenger station again already on 15 October 1882. All buildings for passenger were removed in subsequent years.

On the vacated premises the track triangle of the Berlin U -Bahn and 1907 the Berlin Postbahnhof was built in 1901. The latter was used to supply Berlin with covenants and other goods. Particular importance he obtained during the division of Germany, as this West Berlin united with the German territory. The postal station was decommissioned in 1997.

Reuse

Parts of the former postal station were used after his Dresden under the name Station for exhibitions and events. In 2005, the owners changed. In the plants under the name STATION Berlin was a venue for trade fairs, conferences and events.

The south to interlocking Plw ( Postbahnhof Luckenwalder Street ) was built in the park at the railway triangle and now houses a café.

The buildings of the Postbahnhof are now a protected monument.
