Bernard Cadenat

Bernard Cadenat ( born January 2, 1853 in Pexiora, Aude department; † August 1, 1930 in Marseille) was a French politician and mayor of Marseille. From 1898 to 1919 and from 1924 to 1930 he was a member of the National Assembly.

Cadenat came from a modest background, his father was a street vendor and his mother a housewife. He went to Marseille, where he was a shoemaker. A little later he founded a union of shoemakers and became its chairman. He joined the Parti Ouvrier français at Jules Guesde, later, the SFIO emerged from the. In 1886 he became a member of the city council of Marseille, in 1892 he became deputy mayor. When he took in the elections to the National Assembly in 1893, he was beaten Auguste Bouge. In 1898, he beat Bouge and enter parliament. Four times he succeeded in re-election until he almost failed because of the re- entry into parliament in 1919. In addition to its function as an MP, he was from 1910 to 1912 mayor of Marseille. In 1924 he was again able to move into the National Assembly and defend his seat in a by-election in 1928. Until his death on August 1, 1930, he remained in Parliament.
