Bernard Hislaire

Yslaire ( born January 11, 1957 in Brussels), whose real name is Bernard Hislaire, is a Belgian comic book artist.

His first drawings appeared in the fanzine Robidule, while studying at the Institut Saint- Luc. In his 18th year he became a member of the team of the magazine Spirou. Soon after his 16-page narrative le Troisième Laron came out. Together with his supporters Charles Dupuis, Raoul Cauvin and Jean -Marie Brouyère he produced several series such as Coursensac et Baladin. He became famous in 1978 with his first own series Bidouille et Violette, which he continued until 1985. From this period are various drawings for La Libre Belgique and Le Trombone Illustré come.

After a meeting with Balac ( Yann ) he drew the Sambre saga about the impossible love between the rich young man Bernard Sambre and the peasant girl Julie during the 1848 revolution in France. It differed greatly in style from his previous works, the coloring is very limited, it is dominated by black / white contrasts with blood red accents. This series was a commercial success both with the critics as well. In German it appeared in Carlsen -Verlag.

In 1997, he came to terms with the internet and recorded the album XXe Ciel ( The XX.Himmel ), a profound cyber - novel, which is characterized by a diverse Stilmixtur. Again, this appeared on German at Carlsen.
