Bernard Tissier de Mallerais

Bernard Tissier de Mallerais ( born September 14, 1945 in Sallanches, Haute -Savoie, France ) is a bishop of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X.

Life

After completing a university degree in biology Bernard Tissier de Mallerais earned a master's degree and entered in October 1969 in the seminary of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X ( SSPX ) in the Swiss Fribourg one. On June 29, 1975 he was ordained a priest in Ecône. Here, he was then a professor, and later as rector of the seminary. He then became secretary-general of the SSPX ( 1984-1996 ).

On June 30, 1988 he was ordained with three other priests by the founder of the SSPX, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, Bishop. But because these ordinations were carried out against the will of the Pope, Pope John Paul II issued a decree which declared the excommunication of Lefebvre and the four bishops ordained.

The SSPX denies the occurrence of excommunication with reference to an allegedly existing church crisis and a supposedly existing church emergency, which is why Bernard Tissier de Mallerais continue donating sacraments, especially confirmations, ordinations and blessings reserved for a bishop within the SSPX.

His duties within the Fraternity of St. Pius X were from 1979 to 1983 on the management of the Seminary of Ecône. From 1984 to 1996 he was general secretary of the Brotherhood. His main task was from 1996 in the research and documentation of the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre's life.
