Bernardo Houssay

Bernardo Alberto Houssay ( born April 10, 1887 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, † September 21, 1971 ) was an Argentine physiologist.

Houssay yielded substantial work on diabetes and sugar metabolism as well as on the internal secretion.

He received in 1947 alongside Carl Ferdinand Cori and Gerty Cori whose wife the Nobel Prize in Medicine "for his discovery of the importance of the anterior pituitary lobe hormones for the metabolism of sugar ."
