Bernd Altenstein

Bernd Old Stone ( born April 29, 1943 in Castle Hill, East Prussia ) is a German sculptor and university teacher.

Biography

Altenstein studied from 1964 to 1969 sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in the class of Professor R. Daudert. From 1970 to 1975 he was a research assistant at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Professor Jürgen Weber. From 1975 to 2009 Old Stone taught the course sculpture at the Academy of Arts Bremen. Together with Waldemar Otto, he coined the Bremer figurative sculpture. Typical of his work is a differentiated form language in all the details of modeling and a keen interest in social content.

After the retirement of Waldemar Otto ( 1994) the class of the Old Stone got a growing attraction, as it was hardly worked in Germany at art academies figuratively. The class became a gathering point for contemporary figurative sculpture from all over Germany.

He is a member of the Artists Featured Federal Government in Germany and Darmstadt Secession and a founding member of the Society for Contemporary Art in Bremen.

In 2010 he became a member of the Association Independent Bremen eV, an association of people - mostly from the business world - who want to be a constituency association or to support a voter community.
