Bernd Drechsel

Bernd Drechsel ( born October 28, 1953 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a retired German wrestler. He was third in the European Championship 1975 in Greco-Roman Bantamweight.

Career

Bernd Drechsel grew up in Saxon Thalheim and played football as a child. Since he was small and very light, but he soon moved to the rings, the very meet him with his weight class division. In Thalheim Wolfgang Bohne his first coach, which he produced exclusively in the Graeco-Roman. Style ranking, much learned. Soon, Bernd was so good that he was delegated to the Ringer center at SC Motor Zella- Mehlis. At 18, he was first also been used in 1971 GDR champion in the light flyweight ( paper weight) and was in Sofia at the World Championships, where he finished equal an excellent 4th place.

In the following years he started regularly at international championships, from 1974 bantamweight. He always won it finishes among the top ten wrestlers. He celebrated his greatest success in the European Championship 1975 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. There, he managed to win the bronze medal with four wins. Also at the Olympic Games Bernd was there, namely in 1972 in Munich. In the paper weight he lost there after two wins against Ferenc Seres from Hungary and Berceanu Gheorghe from Romania and came on the 7th Place.

During the Olympic Games in 1976 and 1980, Bernd has not been sent.

Bernd Drechsel was but still remains active, even if he no longer participated in the championships. After German reunification, he wrestled, although he has walked almost 40 years, slim and wiry as ever, even for TSV Berchtesgaden in the German Bundesliga.
