Bernd Krauss

Bernd Krauss ( born May 8, 1957 in Dortmund ) is a retired German -Austrian football player and football coach.

Career as a player

Krauss began his active football career in 1971 at the Dortmund suburb BSV Stoke, where he played in the youth departments until 1976. In the 1976/77 season he played as a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund. From 1977 to 1983, Bernd Krauss players in Austria at SK Rapid Wien and took there temporarily Austrian citizenship on. His career ended in 1988 after six years at Borussia Moenchengladbach. In the Bundesliga, he had to be charged to 168 games and eight goals at the end of his career.

Bernd Krauss completed for the national team of Austria between 1981 and 1983, 22 countries participated in the Games and the Football World Cup 1982 in Spain part. His debut in the Austrian team, he completed just against Germany, where he underwent an own goal.

Coaching career

1988/89 started the coaching career of Krauss at SC chapels. He then coached the amateurs of Borussia Mönchengladbach (1989 /90) and 1st FC Cologne ( 1990), before he first assistant coach and then on 6 November 1992 coach of Gladbach in 1991 to 7 December 1996. With Borussia Mönchengladbach he won the 1995 DFB-Pokal. In the autumn of 1991, he was briefly in place of Gerd vom Bruch head coach.

One match before the winter break 1996/97 parted ways: Krauss was on leave due to lack of success, went to Spain and trained there Real Sociedad (1997-1999) and RCD Mallorca ( 2001). His interim return to the Bundesliga to Borussia Dortmund in 2000, was not successful; after only eight weeks without a single win, he was released here as well. In 2002 he moved to Greece for Aris Salonika, he was, however, terminated in the summer of the same year.

By the summer of 2004 he was registered as unemployed before the Austrian club VfB Admira Wacker Mödling signed him. There, the former Bundesliga player and coach signed a one year contract with an option for another season. However, Bernd Krauss did not fulfill his full agreement and entered after 134 days due to lack of sporting perspective and after three defeats in a row back. After working in the United Arab Emirates and Iran, he trained from April 11 to December 5, 2006, Spanish club CD Tenerife. From 5 August 2007 to 6 December 2007, he worked as manager of the Austrian First League club ASK Schwadorf.

On January 23, 2012 it was announced that Bernd Krauss should take up an activity as a coach and general manager at Etoile du Sahel in Tunisia. End of March 2012, however, was already his dismissal.
