Bernd Purkrabek

Bernd Purkrabek (* 1982 ) is an Austrian lighting designer who works in major opera houses.

Bernd Purkrabek went to the Polytechnic Institute in Graz Ortwein to school. After training in the areas of audio-visual media and photography in Graz, he worked as a gaffer in the film, before studying at the College of Music and Theater in Munich in lighting design. Purkrabek assisted first at Reinhard Traub and Asa Frankenberg, since 2009 he has worked independently. Purkrabek worked, inter alia, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Royal Opera in Stockholm, De Nederlandse Opera, the Grand Théâtre de Genève and at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Glyndebourne Festival. A continuous collaboration connects him since 2009 with the Theater an der Wien.
