Bernhard Bardenheuer

Franz Bernhard Hubert Bardenheuer ( born July 12, 1839 in Lamersdorf (Nordrhein-Westfalen ); † August 13, 1913 ) was a German surgeon.

Bardenheuer was from 1874 chief of surgery of the Civil Hospital in Cologne, in 1884, professor and from 1904 to 1907 Director of the Academy for practical medicine. From 1891 to 1902 his assistant and representative Albert was Plücker ( 1864-1945 ).

He developed significant yield concepts ( Bardenheuer -Extension) and broke new ground in the treatment of fractures ( Bardenheuer - pelvic support ). Bardenheuer conducted numerous named after him, an operation methods ( Bardenheuer - arc cut, Bardenheuer nerve stump care, Bardenheuer - Ravitch method, Bardenheuer operation). He also enriched the urology to important content. On January 13, 1887, he performed the first total cystectomy.

Scientific Estate (selection)

Bard Heuer significant medical books collection included about 10,000 volumes and was located until 1933 in the library of the Civil Hospital of Cologne.
