Bernhard IV, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg

Bernhard IV, Prince of Anhalt -Bernburg († June 28, 1354 ) was a reigning sovereign anhaltischer of the family of Ascanians.

Life

He was the eldest son of Bernhard III. of Anhalt- Bernburg and Agnes, daughter of Rudolf I Duke of Saxe- Wittenberg.

Although the house Anhalt, the principle of inheritance was common Bernhard succeeded his father in 1348 as the sole ruler of the principality of Anhalt- Bernburg.

Possible marriage

It is not clearly established whether Bernard and Beatrix ( born September 1, 1339July 25, 1399 ), a daughter of Frederick II, Landgrave of Thuringia and Margrave of Meissen was married. More likely, however, that he was indeed engaged to her marriage, however, due to his early death did not materialize. Beatrix spent the rest of her life in the monastery and later became abbess of the Poor Clares Seußlitz, where she lived 1363-1399.

Bernhard IV died without an heir, so his brother Henry IV succeeded him in the regency.
