Bernhard M. Hämmerli

Bernhard M. Hammerli ( born December 31, 1958 in Wettingen ) is a Swiss computer scientist in the fields of communications, networking and information security. He is a specialist in the protection of critical infrastructures in the European Union. He teaches internationally, as a professor at both the University of Lucerne and the University of Gjøvik. From 2008 to 2012, he was editor of the IEEE Computer Society. Since 2012 he has headed the platform ICT security, the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Life

Hammerli studied electrical engineering at ETH Zurich and received his doctorate in 1988. He worked for the company IBM, Swissair, and UBS. Since 1992 he has been a professor at the Hochschule Luzern present. Since 2009 he also teaches at the Norwegian College Gjøvik.

Hammerli is a member of numerous scientific and economic advisory bodies and working for several professional conferences. He was on the board of the Information Security Society Switzerland ( ISSS ), as Vice-President from 1997 to 2007, then as president until 2009. Hammerli is also a member of the Societé d' Informaticiens and the IEEE Computer Society, in their Press Editorial Board from 2007 until he 2012 worked. From 2006 to 2010 he served on the board of Swiss IT SEC. Hammerli serves on the Board of the European Homeland Security Association. Since 2009 he has been President of the Swiss computer science society (SI). In 2012 he was admitted to the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences and acts as a conductor of the platform ICT Security.

Hammerli is editor of European Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Newsletter and co-editor of digma, a journal of legal data and information security. He was several times a member of international teams for FP7 projects, including Parsifal about Protection and Trust in Financial Infrastructures (protection and confidence in infrastructure finance).
