Berthold Suhle

Berthold wallow ( born January 1, 1837 in Stolp, Pomerania, † January 26, 1904 in Nordhausen ) was a German classical scholar and chess players.

Wallow was the son of a school headmaster. He studied from 1855, first in Berlin and then from 1857 to 1859 at the University of Bonn, the subjects philosophy, philology and natural science. Then he lived alternately in Berlin and Stolp.

In 1859 he was defeated Adolf Anderssen in Breslau in a longer race ( 13:27, = 8). Five years later ended in a match against the same opponents in a draw ( 3-3 = 2). He also won in 1860 a match against Philipp Hirschfeld superior ( 7-0 = 2). Wallow was also an outstanding blind players. His published in 1865 with Gustav Neumann factory The latest theory and practice of chess was well received. Max Lange took him temporarily on the editorial board of the prestigious chess newspaper.

Early ended wallow his chess activities for professional reasons. From 1877 to 1901 he worked as a high school teacher of Greek at Stolp and later at the Royal Grammar School in Nordhausen. In 1895 he was appointed professor.
