Bertolli

Bertolli is an Italian manufacturer of pasta, olive oil and other products. He belongs to different parts of the Unilever Group and the Spanish olive oil group deOleo.

History

The origin of the brand Bertolli is located in a family in Lucca, in the heart of Tuscany. There sold Francesco Bertolli, owner of a small grocery store in 1865 for the first time olive oil to customers in the region. Italian USA immigrants settled this oil Forward to the USA. This unexpected market outside Italy Bertolli was the first exporter of olive oil. 1963 there was a company takeover by Montecatini (later Montedison ). He was the leading shareholder of Bertolli. Montedison sold the company in 1972 to Società di Meridional Elettricità and the family Bertolli their shares.

In 1994, the takeover of the company by Van den Bergh, a Unilever subsidiary in Italy. In 2000, the entry of Bertolli in the German market followed. Today Bertolli products in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Brazil, most of Europe and Korea are available. 2008 Unilever sold its olive oil brand Bertolli for 630 million euros to the Spanish competitor Grupo SOS. Bertolli products such as margarine and pasta sauces are not affected by the deal, however.

But the olive oil is represented in over 40 countries, many of which claims to be the market leader. Under the Spanish line olive oils are bottled from the EU and the Mediterranean in Italy and sold under the brand.

The brand

The Italian brand, which is protected in Germany, is the winner of the "Golden Effie " 2006 - the most important prize for efficient advertising effect. Bertolli 2010 was in the shortlist for the "Golden puffs for the three most advertising lie", awarded by the consumer organization Food Watch.
