Bertrand Teyou

Bertrand Zepherin Teyou (born 1969 ) is a Cameroonian writer.

In his book La Belle de la république bananière: Chantal Biya, de la rue au palais ( The Beauty of the banana republic: Chantal Biya, from the streets to the palace ) he draws Chantal Biya's career from a simple origin for the first lady after. On 3 November 2010 he was arrested in a hotel in Douala during a book signing. His books have been destroyed. He was, alternatively sentenced to pay 2,030,150 CFA francs (about 3000 € after damaligem exchange rate ) to two years imprisonment. Teyou could not pay and was imprisoned. His detention sparked an Urgent Action campaign by Amnesty International.

On 29 April 2011, he was released after friends and supporters had paid the sum demanded for him.
