Besançon Hockey Club

The Séquanes de Besançon (official name: Besançon Hockey Club ) was a French ice hockey team from Besançon, which existed from 1970 to 2003.

History

The Besançon Hockey Club was founded in 1970. From 1989 to 2001, the team played continuously in the third-tier Division 2 was not until the 2000/01 season succeeded Besançon the rise as third league champion in the second class Division 1 In this they occupied immediately took fifth place. They benefited from an increase in the Super 16 (now known as Ligue Magnus ) and reached the direct walkover in the highest French league. The biggest surprise succeeded in Besançon in the Coupe de France, the national cup competition, in which they reached the final as a second division side. There they however clearly subject to the Dragons de Rouen with 1:8. In the 2002/03 season, their first in the top French league, the team reached just four points in 14 rounds of the main games. Due to financial problems, however, the club was forced to withdraw from the current game mode before hosting the relegation round the team. Then the club went bankrupt and was dissolved.
