Beschorneria

Beschorneria yuccoides subsp. yuccoides

Beschorneria is a plant genus in the subfamily of the agave ( Agavoideae ). The botanical name honors the German physician and botanist Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Beschorner ( 1806-1873 ).

Description

The species of the genus Beschorneria grow as usually stemless, rarely treelike, rhizomatöse rosettes and form clumps in age. The more or less linear - lanceolate leaves are narrowed toward the base and extends therefrom to a leaf sheath. The tough, bald leaf blade is keeled and rinnig. It has a fleshy midrib. At the top it is long and soft. The leaf margin is entire or serrated tiny.

The grape-like or slightly branched, Rispige inflorescence is straight or overhanging. The shaft and the wide, long bracts are red, pink or yellow. The stalked, aktinomorphen flowers are pendulous and are available for two to five together in distant clusters. Your lanceolate, free, greenish, yellowish or red tepals are eigend together and form a tube- like structure. The inner tepals are keeled on the outside and inside papillose or fine fluffy. The thread- thin papillary stamens are slightly thickened at the base and about as long as the tepals. The dust bags are more or less elongate. The under continuous, elongated ovary is three -edged, sechsfurchig and dreifächrig. The thread- thin papillary pen is as long as the stamens or longer. The indistinctly three-lobed stigma is ciliated.

Are formed cylindrical lokulizide capsules containing plano -convex, flat, glossy black to blackish seeds.

The base chromosome number is x = 30
