As an ovary or ovaries is called in botany the bulbous part of the stamp, in which the ovule is added to the eggs. One ovary is unique to angiosperms.
After fertilization of the ovum by the generative nucleus of the pollen tube in the ovule of the ovary developed the plant embryo that is enclosed in the seed. From the ovary wall often the pulp developed in the maturation of the fruit, such as in Cherry.
The position of the ovules is called placentation.
It differs depending on the position of the ovary in the base of the flower three forms:
- The Upper constant ovary is on the base of the flower and the sepals set below the ovary to.
- The medium-sized ovary is sunk into the base of the flower and the sepals set at half the height of the ovary at ( perigynes Hypanthium ).
- The under constant ovary is sunk into the base of the flower and grow together with him and the sepals set above the ovary at ( gynoeceales Hypanthium ).
