Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson ( born August 10, 1942 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, United States) is an American designer and fashion designer.

Life

Actually trained as a dancer, Johnson soon discovered her interest in costume making. She is best known as a top designer for Paraphernalia one of the hottest fashion boutiques in the 1960s, and in the context of the Factory scene to Andy Warhol. Here they met with the musician John Cale of The Velvet Underground, whom she married in 1967 ( the marriage was divorced in 1971 ). In 1969 she opened her first boutique Betsey Bunki Nini in New York. With their unusual, feminine and timeless collections, she managed to assert themselves on the market for over four decades. Their designs always reflect attention to the current culture and subculture trends: From flowery patterns of the 60s hippie to disco trend towards ethnic motifs and unusual fabrics. Along with Roy Halston she was one of the youngest renowned designers of their time. After many years for a variety of fashion label and - has worked magazine, to Betsey decided in 1978 to start her own fashion label.
