Betws

Betws ( pronunciation: [ bɛtu ː s] ) is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK ( not to be confused with Betws -y -Coed in Gwynedd ).

Betws lies on the River Amman; on the side of the river to the north is the town of Ammanford, Betws belonged to the temporary. The southern border of Betws (the river Cathan ) formed the boundary between Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire. Grave finds show that the area was settled around Betws already in the Bronze Age.

About the site Mynydd y Betws mountain looms (371 m). How many places in the region was dominated by the coal industry Betws many years, at times there were up to seven mines; except the coal and iron and Tin sheets were supplied from here to the industrial cities. Nevertheless, the village has never lost its rural character. Today, there are plans to build on the mountain wind turbines, which meets fierce opposition from conservationists.

Known in Betws -born or grown up people are the actress Siân Phillips and singer Donald Peers.
