Bhavnagar ( Gujarati: ભાવનગર, Bhāvanagar ) is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat with a population of about 594,000 ( 2011 census ). It is the capital of the district of Bhavnagar and cultural center of Saurashtra region.

Bhavnagar was founded in 1723 by Bhavsinhji Gohil and named after him. It was the capital of the princely state of Bhavnagar.

For two centuries, the coastal town was an important trading port. She is known for the cotton trade, the diamond industry and about 50 kilometers away, ship scrap yard Alang today. Bhavnagar has an airport.
