Białobrzegi

Białobrzegi [b ʲ awɔbʒɛɟi ] is a town in Poland, in the Masovian Voivodeship.

History

The village was mentioned as Byalobrzegy the first time in 1470. 1540 was the place a city charter by King Sigismund I and in 1775 part of Austria. In 1809 he became part of the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 Congress Poland. 1896 lost the place to be a town.

In September 1939 Białobrzegi was occupied by Germans. All the Jews of the town were either murdered or deported to the Treblinka extermination camp. On 16 January 1945 the Red Army reached the place. East of the city was made in 1940 the huge Truppenübungsplatz middle of the German Wehrmacht.

1958 was the place to be back municipal law. From 1956 to 1975 he was the seat of the powiat Bialobrzeski in Kielce Voivodeship. 1999 Białobrzegi was again capital of the powiat Bialobrzeski.
