Biblia Hebraica (Kittel)

Was under the name of Biblia Hebraica and is a series text critical editions of the Tanakh hand (also: Hebrew Bible ) published, which should take into particular account the needs of historical-critical biblical scholarship. In various editions it has been published since the beginning of the 20th century under the umbrella Protestant Bible societies, since the 3rd edition 1937 on the basis of the Codex Leningradensis B 19A from the National Library of St. Petersburg ( about now sometimes called Codex Petropolitanus ).

The first three editions were from the Hebrew scholar Rudolf Kittel published ( the last of which usually Biblia Hebraica Kittel or cited as BHK).

The following output was commissioned by the German Bible Society in Stuttgart by Karl Elliger (1901-1977) and Wilhelm Rudolph in numerous editions published Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS ), which was first 1967-1977 brought out in successive stapling. The reason for the name change was the complete revision of the text-critical apparatus and the critical, complete surrender of Masora parva on the edge of the text together with the system of references to the Masora magna. How BHK takes over the Masoretic text of the BHS Codex Leningradensis / Petropolitanus which, if known, " the oldest dated manuscript of the complete Hebrew Bible " is. Unlike the Codex Leningradensis / Petropolitanus the books are in the BHS 1 / 2 Chronicle been placed at the end of the canon.

Since 2004 parts of a new edition will be published under the name of Biblia Hebraica Quinta ( BHQ ), which contain additional text variants (including all variants of the so-called Qumran manuscripts ) as well as the entire issue of Masora magna. In keeping with the importance of the issue in the global scientific community is the standard language for explanations now English ( introductions also in German and Spanish).
