Big D Jamboree

The Big D Jamboree was an American music show, which was broadcast by the radio station KRLD. The show consisted of performances of famous country musician, as well as skits and gags.

History

The Big D Jamboree was launched on 18 October 1947 as the Lone Star Barn Dance, but after one year, the show was renamed. It was held at the Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas, which could accommodate up to 6300 spectators. The show was produced initially by Al Turner and Ed McLemore, later by Johnny Hicks and Johnny Harper. At this time, the end of the 1940s, there was no other in Dallas Country Show, Big D Jamboree therefore enjoyed great popularity.

Successful show in Texas

The number of musicians who appeared there regularly increased from 20 (1947 ) to 50 ( 1953). To 1956, the Big D Jamboree then fed into the CBS network, so you could receive in almost all of America the broadcast. At the same time a half-hour sequence of the show in the weekly change was transferred to the KWKH Louisiana Hayride, the WHAS Old Kentucky Barn Dance and the WRVA Old Dominion Barn Dance on AFN in Europe. Initially joined the Big D Jamboree on only local musicians, what changed in the early 1950s. The list of stars is long, among other things, were Faron Young, Webb Pierce and Hank Locklin on the Big D Jamboree. For young talent, the show was also a way to gain greater prominence. Starting in 1954, carried the Big D Jamboree in especially for the dissemination of rockabilly, as well as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Warren Smith and many other rockabilly artists appeared here and the strict regiment of the WSM Grand Ole Opry withdrawn. As the heyday of country programs put the beginning of the 1960s, also lost the Big D Jamboree in popularity. Through television, people now no longer had to listen to the radio or watch a live show.
