BigDog

BigDog ( English for " Big Dog ") is a more stable four-legged walking robot, which was developed by the robotics specialist Boston Dynamics on behalf of DARPA.

Technology

The BigDog has a length of 0.91 meters, a height of 0.76 meters and weighs 110 kilograms, is thus comparable to the size of a small mule. He reached a speed of up to 6.4 kilometers per hour and can carry a total weight of 180 kg, stay 24 hours in use and throw large bricks.

It is powered by (2012 ), a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with an output of 15 hp at 9,000 rpm. The motor drives a hydraulic pump which acts on the four actuators each leg. A "light detection and ranging " are for orientation and obstacle detection - (LIDAR ) radar and GPS used. The computer that sits in the hull of BigDogs, is a PC/104 with an Intel Pentium 4, which uses QNX real- time operating system.

The program of the BigDog was written in the programming language C .
