Bill Jordan, Baron Jordan

William Brian Jordan, Jordan Baron, CBE ( born January 28, 1936), known as Bill Jordan is a British economist and politician.

The son of Walter and Alice Jordan went to the Barford Road Secondary school in modern Birmingham.

He was from 1986 to 1995 president of the Amalgamated Engineering Union ( AEU ), later renamed the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union ( AEEU ). At the same time he was a member of the Central Committee of the Trades Union Congress (TUC ). In 1995, he became General Secretary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions; the post he held until 2002.

He was also many years director of the London School of Economics from 1987 to 2002 and from 1988 to 1998 the BBC.

Jordan was in 1992 awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire and was on June 5, 2000 Life Peererhiben.

He is since 1958 married to Jean Ann Livesey; they have three daughters.
