Bill Napier

William M. Napier or Bill Napier ( born June 29, 1940 in Perth / Scotland) is an asteroid researcher and author. Napier's research focuses on the physical and chemical properties of interstellar dust and the effects of meteorite impacts on the Earth. After him the asteroid ( 7096 ) Napier is named. Napier is also the author of numerous scientific and popular science books.

Life

Napier studied at the University of Glasgow. 1967 to 1992 he was an astronomer at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. 1994 to 1996 he took back to the University of Glasgow, Research tasks. He was an honorary professor at the Institute for Astrobiology at the University of Cardiff in 2001 and works at the Armagh Observatory.

Notoriety gained by the William M. Napier - together with the astrophysicists and astronomers Victor Clube and other scientists developed - the coherent theory of catastrophism ( Engl: coherent catastrophism ) which periodic Impacts of comets and comet fragments presupposes on earth. Such impact events are said to have also influenced the mankind and civilization history.
