The fungus beetle ( Biphyllidae ) are a family of beetles ( Coleoptera) dar.

Features

It is small, black to red-brown colored beetle with a body length of 2.3 to 3.3 millimeters. The body top is covered with dense hair and can point rows ( Biphyllus ) or a striation ( Diplocoelus ) have. The sensors have two lobes ( Biphyllus ) or three members ( Diplocoelus ). The legs are five-membered the fourth element is the smallest.

Way of life

The fungal leaf beetles live from mycelium and are mainly found in fungus-infected bark of deciduous trees or on tree fungi ( Biphyllus ).

System

Worldwide there are about 200 species are known in southern Central Europe, four species have been recorded. In Europe, five species occur in two genera.
