Bishop of Crediton

The bishopric of Crediton (Latin: Dioecesis Cridiensis ) was a United Kingdom located in present-day Roman Catholic diocese based in Crediton.

History

The bishopric of Crediton was built in 909 out of territory of the diocese of Sherborne. First bishop was Eadwulf. The bishopric of Crediton included the counties of Cornwall and Devon. In the year 931 the bishopric of Crediton were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Cornwall. 1040 the area of the dissolved Cornwall diocese was again annexed to the bishopric of Crediton.

In the year 1050 the bishop's seat was moved by Bishop Leofric of Crediton to Exeter and the title was changed to Bishop of Exeter.

The bishopric of Crediton was the archbishopric of Canterbury, is a suffragan.
