Bisphenol

Bisphenols are a group of chemical compounds, the two ( "to" ) hydroxyphenyl groups ( "phenol" ) bear. Bisphenol is thus a common name, the subsequent letter combination usually refers to one of the reactants. Colloquially, the best known representatives of this group of bisphenol A is referred to simply as "bisphenol ".

Construction

Most of the representatives are derived from di-or triphenyl methane and have a central carbon atom. Bisphenol S, P, and M are the exceptions: bisphenol S has a central sulfur atom, M and P are the bisphenols connections to a central benzene ring in the meta - or para-position two alkyl phenols are linked.
