Bjarkøy

Bjarkøy was a commune in the northern Norwegian province (county ) Troms, until she slammed the municipality Harstad on 1 January 2013.

The territory of the municipality distributed across several small islands in the North Sea and on the northern half of the island Grytøya whose southern half belongs to the municipality of Harstad. The population is spread in some small coastal settlements. Administrative headquarters was the settlement on the eponymous island Bjarkøy.

Traffic

Since 1997 there is a tunnel from Harstad to Grytøya. There the ferry from Vikran goes to Bjarkøy.
