Björn Böhning

Björn Lars Böhning ( born June 2, 1978 in Geldern ) is a German politician. He was from June 2004 to November 2007 national chairman of the Association of Socialist Youth and Young Socialists in the SPD ( Young Socialists ). He was from February 2008 to November 2011 speaker of the SPD - Left ( Democratic Left Forum 21). Since December 2, 2011 he is head of the Berlin Senate Chancellery.

Schools and Universities

In 1998, Böhning at Carl- Jacob Burckhardt Gymnasium in Lübeck from his high school. He was then Zivildienstleistender in a Lübeck sheltered workshop. From 1999 to 2004, he participated at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin to study political science, which he successfully graduated with a diploma.

Political career

Böhning began his political career in 1994 when he joined the SPD and was politically active in the Young Socialists in Lübeck. 1995 to 1997, he was elected speaker of the Lübeck Young Socialists, until he was elected Deputy Young Socialist state chairman in Schleswig- Holstein in 1997. A year later he represented the Schleswig-Holstein Young Socialists in the Federal Committee.

On the Young Socialist Federal Congress in 2001 in Cologne Böhning was elected deputy chairman of the SPD youth organization before he was elected on 17 June 2004 at a national conference of the Young Socialists in Munich with 192 against 65 votes to succeed Niels Annen. On 10 June 2005 Björn Böhning was confirmed with 65.7 % in his office as Young Socialist Federal Chairman. On 27 September 2007 he stated that he would no longer run with the Federal Congress 2007 in Wolfsburg for the office of Young Socialists national chairman, but he remains an elected member of the SPD party executive. Böhning belonged to the Young Socialist left - flow network to left center. He has worked at the magazine with spw. From January 2007 to December 1, 2011, he led the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, in the Senate Chancellery, the Policy and Planning Unit. His political focus was mainly in the areas of employment policy, education / youth unemployment and the reform of the welfare state. On 2 December 2011, he took over the office of the Chief of the Senate Chancellery of Berlin.

Björn Böhning was SPD candidate in the parliamentary constituency of Berlin- Friedrichshain - Kreuzberg - Prenzlauer Berg Ost for the parliamentary elections in 2009, reaching 16.7 % of the vote.
