Bjørn Kjellemyr

Bjørn Kjellemyr ( born December 4, 1950 in Bamble ) is a Norwegian jazz bassist (double bass, electric bass).

Life and work

Kjellemyr played in the band of Guttorm Guttormsen before he studied from 1974 to 1978 at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. From 1980 he was a member of various groups of Jon Eberson. From 1982 to 1985, he belonged to Frode Alnæs / Nils Petter Molvaer Quartet, but also came with L. Subramaniam (1982 ), Warne Marsh ( 1983) Chet Baker ( 1983) on. Then he played with Sidsel Endresen and 1984-1991 with Terje Rypdal, with whom he recorded various albums ( " Chaser ", " The Singles Collection ", " Vossabrygg ", "If Mountains Could Sing" ). In 1997, he was also involved in Bugge Wesseltoft important album "New Conceptions of Jazz". With the singer Berit Opheim and Nils Økland he founded the group BNB. In recent years he was with Rolf Lislevands project " Nuove Musiche " Ketil Bjørnstad and on tour, with whom he recorded two albums.

Kjellemyr plays bass in Geir Lysne Ensemble ( album "The Grieg Code"). In addition, he recorded with Sigvart Dagsland and Jan Gunnar Hoff. He has worked at the Norwegian Academy of Music as a bass teacher.

Prizes and awards

The Association of Norwegian jazz musicians drew Kjellemyr 1990 as " Jazz Musician of the Year"; from the Norwegian Jazz Association, he received the 1994 "Buddy pinches ".
