Geir Lysne

Geir Øystein Lysne (* 1965 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone), composer and director of a big band.

Life and work

Lysne studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo ( 1988-92 ). Together with Helge Sunde he played in the Oslo Grove Company, which was awarded the Spellemannprisen (1990 ) before he founded his own group, the Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble. In addition, Lysne has emerged as a composer and conductor of the NDR Bigband, the hr -Bigband, the Danish jib Big Band and other ensembles in appearance. He is at the University of Oslo professor of jazz arrangements and composition.

Prizes and awards

In 2000 he was nominated for the Norwegian " Tono price" for the best composition of the year in jazz. In 2004 he received the State scholarship for composers. His album Boahjenásti - the North Star was awarded the 2006 Prize of German Record Critics.
