Blace (Konjic)

Blace (Cyrillic Блаце ) is a ghost town in the southeast of the town of Konjic in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since the Bosnian War, it is uninhabited and belongs to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Geography

Blace is located at 1215 m altitude in the sparsely populated plateau south of Bjelašnica. It is right on the edge of here about 600 meters deep canyon of Rakitnica that opens just to the west into the Neretva. Near the village there is the small, up to four meters deep mountain lake Jezero Blatačko to 1156 m. The lake and surrounding area are provided as a national monument. The area is overgrown dry and sparse.

The next town is Čuhovići, about four kilometers north-east. The south-western neighbor is Dubocani, about five kilometers away. The community center Konjic is located approximately 20 km in a north-westerly direction.

History

In and around Blace are numerous Stecci which point to a much more extensive colonization in the late Middle Ages.

In the Bosnian war of the small village was attacked on 15 May 1992 by troops under the command of the ARBiH Mithad Pirkić. Several people lost their lives. Today, the foundations of the houses are only available.

Population

At the 1991 census Blace had 21 residents who identified themselves solely as Serbs. The surrounding villages were against occupied a Muslim majority. Today the place is deserted.
