Blackbird is a manga by Kanoko Sakurakōji. It is classified in the genre of romance and fantasy.

Action

Misao sees often Ayakashis, monster which no normal person can see. But on her 16th birthday they get out of hand and start attacking them. Her first love suddenly appears again, the now 20 -year-old Kyō. Misao can hardly remember him, after he had to pull away six years ago. She learns that he is a Tengu and they themselves the Senka. Senkas there is only one time in a hundred years, their blood promises a longer life and even her flesh immortality. You take to wife brings its luster and well-being of communities.

Kyō she wants to marry therefore essential. But Misao do not know if he does this out of love for her or for his clan. It later turns out that he really loves her, too. But their love is repeatedly put to the test, as other clan leaders want the Senka for themselves.

Misao and Kyo do not even know what will happen after their wedding. Tadanobu, best friend of Kyo and head of the Yoko's, advises them on an association, who will no longer be able to be together. More details is available only in Senkaroku, a book in which the lives of the two was written after the marriage. But this was stolen from another clan and is now untraceable. At the same time Misao's father brings a young man whose parents were killed by an Ayakashi home. The firm takes to kill in front of Kyo and Misao to win for themselves. Durchdem he has cursed and Kyo Kyo can only survive if he unites with Misao, Misao is in a quandary. But she unites with him because she wants to save their loved ones. After some time, Misao and Kyo return back to the village, only to find that Kyo's older brother Shō is in the village. After Misao had an altercation with Shō -dono, Kyo calls out his brother for the final battle that ends with the Kyō wins and shō dies. That night, Misao and Kyo combined very often because Misao is to heal the pain of Kyō over the loss of his brother. After the two are back again, Misao has suddenly gained new strength. However, it is not her but her child, what grows in it. Both of course are happy that they are soon to be three, but Misao 's afraid her parents to say that the child and Kyō Ayakashis are. Kyō and they decide first just to say that Misao is pregnant. As Kyo and his followers are attacked by an enemy clan, they defeat them, but out of that, at the moment where Misao their child gives birth, she will die.

The manga was published from 2006 to 2012 in the manga magazine Betsucomi the publisher Shogakukan in Japan. The individual chapters were published on 26 January 2007, in 19 anthologies.

A German translation published by Egmont Manga and Anime, so far 17 volumes since November 2009. An English version appears in Viz Media in the U.S., a Portuguese at Planet Manga and Tong Li brings the manga in Chinese in Taiwan out.

Adaptations

Based on the manga was produced a radio play, which was released by Columbia Music Entertainment on January 21, 2009. On 26 March 2010 also appeared the light novel Blackbird - Missing.

Awards

2009 received Sakurakōji for this manga the Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōjo manga.
