Schwarzschopfelfe ( Lophornis helenae )

The Schwarzschopfelfe ( Lophornis helenae ) is a species of bird in the family of hummingbirds ( Trochilidae ). The species has a large distribution area, which covers about 250,000 square kilometers in the Central American countries, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. The stock is assessed by the IUCN as endangered not (Least Concern ).

Features

Black-haired elves reach a body length of about 7.5 inches and a wingspan of about 10 centimeters. The back is bronze-green and has a white band just above the tail on. This is short and reddish brown, the middle feathers are bronze. The beak is short, straight and reddish with dark tip. The males wear a green crown with a long, dünnfedrigen, black hood. About the ears are long, yellowish-brown plumes. The throat is bright green and the chest has a black, laterally projecting ridge on spring. The belly is whitish with large copper stains. The females do not have a headdress. Her cheeks are dark, the throat is yellowish brown with green spots. The tail has with them on a broad black horizontal stripes.

Habitat

The species is found in humid primary and secondary forests and in clearings and forest edges.

Subspecies

There are no subspecies recognized. Therefore, the species is considered monotypic.
