Black Knights' Tango

The Mexican defense or Kevitz - Trajkovic Defense (referred to in English-language chess literature as Tango or Black Knights ' Tango) is an opening of the chess game. It is among the Closed games and is classified in the ECO codes under the key A50.

History

The opening has its origins in the 1920s, winning both the Mexican grandmaster Carlos Torre (hence the name Mexican defense ), as well as by the U.S. champion Alexander Kevitz (hence Kevitz - Trajkovic Defense ) was played. After the defense was for decades disappeared from the tournament practice, it was revived by the International Master Georgi Orlov, who wrote a successful book on the defense and they called Black Knight 's Tango. After the opening of many strong grandmasters was played, among others, Joel Benjamin, Larry Christiansen and Alex Yermolinsky. The latter played this opening even against Garry Kasparov at the Chess Olympiad in Yerevan in 1996.

Opening ideas

Black develops rapidly, has a flexible pawn structure and is ready to strike back at the center by 3 .. e7 - e5, e6 e7 or d7 -d5. The opening has some independent variants, but often goes through diverter in a King's Indian defense, Nimzoindische defense, Bogoindischen Defense, Chigorin Defence, English Opening or the Ragozin variation.

Possible continuations

3.Sg1 -f3

Perhaps the most-played sequel, as they ... e7 - e5 prevents third. Blacks are therefore usually replies 3 ... e6 e7. Then you can follow 4 Nb1 - c3 Bf8 - b4, which leads to a Nimzoindischen defense; 4 a2 -a3, ( which after 4 ... d7 -d5 to a Queen's Gambit Declined, or) 4 ... d7 - d6 to prepare 5 ... e7 - e5; is the last chance in 4 g2 - g3, which again leads to 4 ... Bf8 - b4 5 Nb1 - c3 to a Nimzoindischen defense or after 5 Lc1 -d2 or 5 Nb1 -d2 leads to a Bogoindischen defense.

3.Sb1 - c3

This train is also widely played. According to the theoretical 3 ... e7 - e5 White usually responds with 4 d4 -d5 ( 4 Sg1 -f3 leads to Sicilian in suits ) Nc6 - e7. In addition, black can in the "Tango - style " with 5 ... Ne7 - g6 continue or reconciled with d7 - d6 plus g7- g6 to the King's Indian defense. 5 h2 - h4 is directed against both " styles ".

3.d4 d5 -

This ambitious train is seen playable, but rare. Black usually responds to this with 3 .. Nc6 - e5. After 4 e2- e4 ( invites to 4 ... Sf6xe4 5 Dd1 -d4 and White wins a knight? ! ) Beat Black in the master batch Sämisch - Torre, Baden -Baden 1925, with 4 ... Ne5 - g6 5 f4 e7 - e5 f2 - back in the center.
