Description

The black panties reached a size of 9.7 centimeters. The beak is straight and about 20 mm long. The top is metallic green and the rump is copper-colored. The coverts are glitzerndgrün. The black tail is pointed and forked. The underside is glitzerndgrün. The male is characterized by black feather panties. The female is slightly smaller. The underside is white with glitzerndgrünen spots. The spring panties are made of white and black feathers.

Occurrence and habitat

The black panties comes at altitudes 2500-3600 m ( but usually above 2900 m) before. The species was first discovered on Puracé near Popayán in Colombia. The currently known distribution area is located in the Central Andes and extends from Tolima and Nariño in Colombia to northern Ecuador.
