Blackburn Iris

The Blackburn RB1 Iris was the first flying boat of Blackburn. The first version - a three -engined biplane - was executed in wood. The first flight took place on 19 June 1926 after which it went to trial at the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment.

The following year the hull was converted to all-metal construction; in addition there were better engines. During the entire operational period with the RAF improvements and modifications have been made. When Iris IV version, for example, drove the average engine at a pressure screw.

Only a few copies were built of this long-range reconnaissance flying boat, and the last retired around 1933. The succession pattern was the Blackburn R. B. 3A Perth.
