Blackish grass mouse

The Black vole ( Thaptomys nigrita, formerly Akodon nigrita ) is a living in South America rodent species from the group of the New world.

Black field mice are stocky animals with short limbs and a short tail, whose physique is reminiscent of voles. Their fur is soft and dense, it is almost black in color, the underside is lighter.

Its distribution area covers the south-east Brazil ( Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul ), eastern Paraguay and northeastern Argentina ( Misiones ). Their habitat is open habitats such as grasslands, where they perform a partial grave lifestyle.

Traditionally, the way the South American field mice ( Akodon ) has been assigned. However, genetic studies indicate that it forms a separate genus, Thaptomys that is related may be closer with Necromys or the Cerrado mice ( Thalpomys ).
