Blanche of Navarre, Queen of Castile

Blanche of Navarre ( * after 1133; † August 12, 1156 ) was a princess of Navarre.

Blanka was the daughter of García IV and Marguerite de l' Aigle. On February 4, 1151, she married Sancho III. , The son of Alfonso VII, king of Castile and León. The two had several children who died shortly after birth. Only one son, who was born on November 11, 1155 Alfonso VIII survived.

Since Spanish queens traditionally all royal documents confirmed their lives from 1151 to the wedding is well documented. However, from the birth of her son until her death on August 12, 1156 there are no more records more of her. She was buried in the Monastery of Santa Maria la Real in Nájera. In the grave inscription of her sarcophagus the birth of Alfonso is given as the reason for her death, the long period of 9 months between birth and death, however, leaves room for speculation that she only died as a result of another miscarriage.
